History Michael D Karr, DDS, President of Medical Relief International, began traveling to Haiti to serve the needs of the people in 1994, in response to a request from a missionary. After one trip, he was hooked! Since then he has formed multiple trips to different countries, sometimes closing his own practice and taking his entire staff with him, at his own cost.
Dr. Karr's passions and vision has been passed on to his daughter, Stacey, a graduate from Las Vegas University, who will be joining his Granite Falls, Washington practice in August of 2007. He has also invested in the dental students from the University of Washington as well as the Las Vegas University, instructing them in emergent care under difficult conditions.

William E Mays, Ph.D, Executive Director of Medical Relief International, began accompanying Dr. Karr to Haiti that same year. Together they created, designed, and perfected mobile dental units that would take them into remote locations with quality dental care. Dr. Mays, with the oversight of Dr. Karr, pioneered a mobile dental lab that would enable them to replace extracted front teeth, which has brought joy and changed the lives of hundred of young people.
Although the ministry of Medical Relief International began in the 1990's, the non profit organization was legally formalized in March of 2006.
1. Assist evangelical mission organizations anywhere in the world
2. Organize mission trips to make it easy for the medical/dental professionals to simply purchase their ticket, and show up on location. MRI owns the equipment, and ensures that the necessary tools are available when professionals reach their destination.
3. Build into the future. Seek young professionals to carry on the vision.
MRI is seeking funding from foundations and individuals to purchase trailers to store mobile equipment. In order to keep priorities in check, it has been determined by the Board to keep MRI mobile at home as in the field.
Mobile units would be able to travel to different locations and offer medical/dental service; setting up temporary clinics wherever necessary.
